Announcement: Thom Mayne, Eui-Sung Yi to participate at Arq.Futuro 2013 Rio de Janeiro

The Now Institute is pleased to announce Thom Mayne and Eui-Sung Yi’s participation in Arq.Futuro 2013 held in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo from September 23-27.

Thom and Yi will be participating in a 2-part panel held in both Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo entitled Architecture: New Challenges”, with Pedro Rivera (RUA Architects, Studio-X Columbia GSAPP), Washington Fajardo (Secretary of Cultural Heritage, City of Rio), Vinicius Andrade + Marcello Morettin (Andrade + Morettin) and Raul Juste Lores (Folha de Sao Paulo).

From Arq.Futuro:

“Although the practice of architecture of architecture is increasingly challenged by complex environmental, social, political and economic forces, architects today have a wide variety of tools and strategies to design and build structures that can inspire and endure. Whether at the scale of the street or the city, technological experimentation and retrofitting priorities have expanded the architect’s toolbox. So too has the increasing importance of community participation, and the expanding role of universities engaged in neighborhood change and policy issues. Following presentations of award-winning projects of Morphosis and urban studies by The Now Institute, and a close look at interventions by Rua Arquitetos, panelists will discuss the current state of architecture education, public commissions and competitions.”
